Šušur — A Morning in Split
Not a tour of Split — a morning of being from Split.
“Šušur” is the local word for pleasant commotion — the hum of the market, the clink of morning coffee, the gossip on the riva. Split is the only city in the world living inside a Roman palace, and this morning lets you live in it too, not just look at it.
Daily life inside a living Roman palace — markets, flavours and rhythm
Chapter I
Coffee, then the market
The day starts the only way a Split day can: slowly, with coffee on the riva while the city argues about football and the fishing boats unload. Then into the pazar and the fish market with your host, tasting as you go — smoked ham, young cheese, figs, whatever the stalls are proudest of that morning.
Chapter II
Inside the palace walls
Diocletian built his retirement palace seventeen centuries ago; Split simply never moved out. Your host walks you through courtyards that are still living rooms, cellars that have seen empires come and go, and ends at a family table where lunch tastes like the market you just walked.
